Daily Practice

This week has gone by extremely fast, first cause of this would be the midterm exam and the large and expansive homework assignments assigned in all my classes. I’ve been preparing for this coming weekend, since my friends and I are taking a trip to Ocean City MD. This trip will give us all the ability to fix our relationships individually, and come up with a way to grow and become better friends. Or it’ll all go to shit and we won’t have the most enjoyable time. Either way, this week has been an interesting time. I was upset I wasn’t able to go on the New York trip with everyone, yet I did have to complete two essays due this past week, which took up most of my time both Saturday and Sunday.

My mom also sent me videos of my two little brothers, which absolutely made my week more than anyone here could have. Below is a picture of the youngest brother, Franklin who is 10 months old. FullSizeRender

Daily Practice

This week was very eventful. Initially I had planned to go on the New York City trip with my fellow classmates, but unfortunately two essays forced me to stay in Alfred over the weekend. I spend most of my week completely homework and essays, which took up most of my time. I also got my hair cut over the weekend by a phenomenal hair cutter in Rochester NY. This week didn’t have many curveballs, I’m finally over the sickness I had a couple weeks ago and feeling back to myself again. Also I’ve been planning for many trips later this year to go back to Austin Texas to visit my family.

Other than what I’ve stated in the paragraph above, nothing new has happened this week.

Space Within a Space

Our territory is located between Kanakadea and the Public Safety center, combining the open field, the tunnels and the small creek. We decided to recreate the territory by adding water, stones, trees, and including cardboard depict the tunnel. We also filmed a underwater video in order to capture the tangible element of water for our instillation. In addition we wanted to translate the state of mind we’re objectified with, within our territory, by visual representations such as the video and creation of our surroundings. Not only do we want to correlate trees as pillars of life, but we want to show how our system connects to the entire campus through earth and location. This instillation is a beautiful depiction of our territory by representing intangible attributes for which we aspired to portray.

Past and Present

Below are two images regarding the past and present of my territory. The first represents the past, as the green and black are drawn in a tree shape showing earth and the embodiment of Mother Nature. My second drawing represents the present by showing the flow of air and water through the blue, with black circles to showcase the manmade tunnels which allowed for this to be a creek. I incorporated various callers from green, red, blue, and black to each show a different part of this location. The red is for the flowers and fall colors, the green represents the earth, blue represents both air and water and the black represents the stones and man made material.

Collecting Details

These 50 images below are all visual representations of my groups territory. I tried to capture things I haven’t seen, all through photography, since this area is beautiful I didn’t want to disrupt the landscapes representation. From having to walk around this area, I saw various parts of this territory I’ve never paid attention to. For example, there are three large stone pillars on the side of the greenery blocking the sidewalk. When I took a step back I noticed how identical they are, yet from many years of being planted here, they have aged each separately. I also tried to take pictures of objects I never noticed. If you scroll to the very last few photos you can see theres a sculpture hiding within the trees which I found very amusing.

Below are my 50 Sensory observations. I used all five senses and recorded them in a bulleted fashion.

While creating these 15 new performances, we utilized our past location to film and capture representations of the rules we were given. These photos in the above slideshow show the location we used for this assignment. The list of parameters we were given are listed below:

  • Disrupt workers at Powell
  • Block mailboxes with our performances
  •  Disrupt a group that is eating
  • Distract those that are going about their routine
  • Make people more self aware and uncomfortable with cameras
  • Audio of random noise of people talking
  • Candid photography, happy accidents
  • Video which incorporates viewers
  • Photography based on emotional and material aspects
  • Drawing a diagram to get a visual
  • What is your body capable of doing?
  • What are the serious rules that you follow?
  • How do you ensure safety?
  • What materials are available to you?
  • How much can you physically attain in space?

The five sets of instructions we created within our group are below:IMG_1721

The documentation of each instruction we created are in the below slideshow, in order of the list above.

This project entailed combining pervious information gathered and new guidelines received from a different group from class. Once we discussed our rules we decided to not place our location within Powell, but form both new rules and old location together into our project above. The performances are mostly pictures, which demonstrate the simplicity of the rules we were given. Not only did we have to translate these 15 rules into performances which best utilize our surroundings, we each had to combine the rules presented into five new instructions. I believe we successfully demonstrated the list of instructions into these five documentations.
